Introduction
------------

Gravis would like to thank ALL of its UltraSound Plug & Play customers
in their patience and understanding awaiting these new drivers. We
are confident that you will be very satisfied with these drivers and
their installation. Although we are confident on the functionality
of these drivers, they are still BETA, and therefore may contain
remaining bugs / problems. We must remind you that they are provided
*AS IS* and are NOT supported by our TECH SUPPORT Department.

Installation / Setup
--------------------

Below are the steps to follow for PROPERLY installing and setting up
        the DOS/Windows 3.x drivers / Software.

1. Unzip PB4DISK2.ZIP onto a floppy disk and label that disk
        "Public BETA 4 DOS/Win 3.x Disk".

2. Unzip PB4DISK3.ZIP onto a floppy disk and label that disk
        "Public BETA 4 Preparation Disk".

3. If you also want to have a Windows 95 setup disk, unzip PB4DISK1.ZIP
onto a floppy disk and label that disk
"Public Beta 4 Win 95 Disk".

4. Exit Windows. You can not perform any of the installation from
        within Windows.

** If you have other Plug & Play devices in your machine, we recommend you **
** turn off your machine and remove them now. After you remove the cards, **
** reboot machine once again and continue below. **

** If your Plug & Play system is working correctly (e.g. there are no IRQ **
** or DMA conflicts with other devices) you may not wish to upgrade the **
** ROM on your UltraSound. If so, skip to step 10. **

** The Plug & Play EEPROM map has not changed since Public Beta 2 so this **
** step is not necessary if you have upgraded to the Beta 2 EEPROM map. **

5. At the Command Prompt, insert the 'Public BETA 4 Preparation Disk'.

6. Type A: <Enter> to go to your A drive.

7. Type PNPMAP /f GRAVIS.ROM <Enter>

8. When prompted, hit Y <enter> to confirm re-writing your EEPROM on the
        UltraSound Plug & Play Card.

9. When the program exits back to the DOS prompt, power down your
system for 30 seconds (or until everything spins down). Power
        up again.

10. When you are back at the Command Prompt, insert the
        "Public BETA 4 DOS/Win 3.x Disk".

11. Type A: <Enter> to go to your A drive.

12. Type INSTALL <Enter>

13. The INSTALL program will guide you through the rest of the
        installation process.

New to Public Beta 2
--------------------

1. Mega-Em works again.

2. IWINIT works again when run from the CONFIG.SYS.

3. New DOS mixer.

New to Public Beta 3
--------------------

1. All new Windows drivers. They supply the same features as
the Windows 95 drivers. This includes a detailed Configuration
Panel, Digital Music (MOD/S3M/669) MCI driver, multiple wave out
clients, changing of patch sets without restarting Windows, the
ability to run native UltraSound applications in a DOS box
(including IWSBOS). Note that not as many native UltraSound
applications will run in a Windows 3.x DOS box as opposed to a
Windows 95 DOS box due to the nature of the operating system.

2. An updated Windows Mixer.

3. An updated SETUP program which allows full Plug & Play operation
of the card. Users with a system with a Plug & Play BIOS now
have the option of allowing the BIOS configure the card for them.

4. A Program Manager group is now added to Windows for the Mixer and
        Configuration Panel icons.

New to Public Beta 4
--------------------

1. The property page has been updated.

2. The ADDICONS program is now automatically run. In beta 3 you
        had to run it manually.

3. The MCI MOD player no longer crashes if you try and adjust the
        reverb from Control Panel->Multimedia->Advanced->Media Control
        Devices->UltraSound Digital Music.

4. We appeared to have a bad build of the Windows 95 driver in beta 3.
Since there are many common components between the Windows 95 and
Windows 3.x driver, we have also rebuilt the Windows 3.x driver.

Bug Reporting
-------------

We have setup a special email account to handle ALL comments,
questions, and bugs regarding the PUBLIC BETA 3 Version 2.0
drivers. Please email everything to pnpv2@gravis.com. Due to the
anticipated 'swamp', please be patient for a response and check our
web site often for updates and info regarding the PUBLIC BETA. We
thank you in advance for all you assistance and support.

Known Bugs / Issues
-------------------

We have tried to make this BETA release as stable as possible but we
know of only a few minor bug still to be fixed.

1. To minimize 'false' bugs, please follow the 'Installation'
        instructions above COMPLETELY.

2. If you have a sequencer program setup for using the MIDI IN PORT and
you have NOTHING plugged in, they will crash. If you are
experiencing this problem, just plug in a joystick / gamepad / MIDI
keyboard and the problem will go away. We recommend NOT configuring
the program to use the MIDI IN PORT unless you have one plugged in.

3. We have had a few testers having problems with motherboards with the
'MR.BIOS' brand BIOS installed. We are investigating this but have
        no solution at this time.
